Billy Thompson is a Lehigh Valley based mixed media artist whose works often utilize acrylic paint, non-recyclable materials, spray paint, oil pastels, and more. Billy’s work often falls under three categories: surrealist landscapes, textural & sculptural pieces, and story-telling focused illustrations.
He utilizes non-recyclable materials in his sculptural paintings as a means of creating unique textures, as well as a way to assuage a growing anxiety over pollutants in the Lehigh Valley. Specific materials are chosen for background elements to develop a subconscious story within the piece. His work comes from the imagery that formulates in his mind when pondering life; trauma, love, sex, regret, sadness, transformation, and more. Utilizing symbols, colors, journal entries as pattern, and textures, Billy attempts to create visual stories to bridge the gap from his lived experience to his viewers as a way of forming connections with others.
