CMS Membership
Do I need experience using makerspace equipment to become a member?
- No. CMS welcomes artists, makers, and curious crafters of all experience levels. Whether you’re trying something for the first time or have years of experience, our Certification Courses will help you become comfortable and confident using our equipment.
Is there a minimum age to become a CMS member?
- Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a CMS Membership. Members are welcome to bring guests ages 6 and up during their reserved Open Hours.
Can I share my CMS Membership with a family member or friend?
- CMS Memberships are individual and cannot be shared or transferred. However, members are welcome to bring up to two guests, ages 6 and up, for $10 per person during their reserved Open Hours.
Does my CMS Membership include discounts on other JuxtaHub classes?
- No. CMS and JuxtaHub Patron Memberships offer different benefits. To receive discounts on other JuxtaHub classes, you’ll need to purchase a Patron Membership.
I’m already a JuxtaHub Patron Member. Can I receive a credit toward a CMS Membership?
- No. CMS and Patron Memberships are two separate memberships with different benefits, so existing Patron Membership fees cannot be applied toward a CMS Membership.
Open Hours
When can I use the makerspace?
- Once certified, members can reserve equipment during our regular Open Hours. Tuesday-Thursday 3-8 PM, Friday 3-9 PM, Saturday 12-4 PM
Is there a limit to how often I can use the makerspace?
- No. We encourage members to make the most of their membership and spend time exploring, experimenting, and creating. However, to ensure fair access for everyone, CMS reserves the right to limit equipment access if usage becomes excessive or interferes with other members’ opportunities to use the space.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my reservation?
- Please email us at cms@juxtahub.com as soon as possible if you need to cancel your reservation. To reschedule, you can make a new reservation online.
Certification
Do I need to get certified before using the equipment?
- Yes. All members must complete a hub-specific Certification Course and a short online test before independently using equipment within that hub. Certification Courses are offered every Tuesday from 5–8 PM and are always FREE for members!
Can I get certified in more than one hub?
- Yes. You’re encouraged to explore as many hubs as you’d like. When registering for a Certification Course, simply select the hubs you’re interested in learning about.
What if I’m already experienced with the equipment? Can I skip certification?
- All members are required to complete the certification process, regardless of prior experience. This ensures everyone understands our specific equipment and safety procedures.
Guests
Can I bring a friend or family member to CMS?
- Yes. Members may bring up to two guests, ages 6 and up, during their reserved Open Hours. Guest passes are $10 per person and can be purchased at the front desk when you check in. Please indicate that you plan to bring guests when making your online reservation. We also have a designated sensory room conveniently connected to the makerspace, providing a separate space for children to spend time.
Is there a limit to how many times I can bring the same guest?
- No. You’re welcome to bring the same guest as often as you’d like. However, if your guest frequently accompanies you, they may want to consider purchasing their own CMS Membership to enjoy the full benefits of independent equipment access.
Do guests need to be certified to use equipment?
- No. As a certified member, you are responsible for showing your guest how to safely use the equipment. Guests must remain under your supervision, and you are responsible for ensuring they follow all equipment guidelines and safety procedures.
Materials & Storage
Does my membership fee cover the cost of materials?
- No. Materials are purchased separately, but we offer a variety of materials at a low cost to help keep your projects affordable.
Can I bring my own materials?
- Yes. You’re welcome to bring materials from home, but they must be approved before your visit to ensure they’re safe and compatible with our equipment. Simply indicate that you’re bringing your own materials when making your online reservation.
How much do 3D prints cost?
- 3D printing is charged based on the amount of filament used at a rate of $0.20 per gram. Once your print is complete, our printer software calculates the amount of filament used, and the corresponding fee is added to your membership account. You can pay your balance online or the next time you visit JuxtaHub. Please note that any outstanding balance must be paid before you can reserve additional 3D printing Open Hours.
Is there somewhere I can store my project if I can’t finish it in one session?
- We have limited shelves and lockers available for project storage. However, because CMS is a shared space open to the public, we cannot guarantee the safety or protection of projects and personal belongings left on-site. We encourage members to take valuable or delicate projects home between visits.
