JuxtaHub Programming Assistant – Convergent Makerspace
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
Hours: Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week

Reports to: Convergent Makerspace Director
Location: JuxtaHub, Lehigh Valley, PA – on-site
Job Description

The Programming Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of JuxtaHub’s Convergent Makerspace (CMS) and helping create an engaging, welcoming experience for artists, members, and students. This highly hands-on role combines makerspace operations, customer service, and administrative support. The position also provides front desk coverage and assists with general program logistics as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Makerspace assistance: Preparing and maintaining equipment and materials, assisting with workshops and certification classes, supervising open hours, helping members navigate the makerspace, and ensuring the space remains organized, safe, and ready for creative work.
- Front desk and reception: Serve as the welcoming first point of contact for members, students, and visitors; answer questions, direct guests, manage check-ins, and handle phone, email, and walk-in inquiries.
- Program and administrative support: Support JuxtaHub programs through contract and check request processing, purchasing and record-keeping, scheduling, and general administrative tasks. Help prepare, upload, and maintain classes and instructional content in online platforms; assist with basic digital media and documentation.
- Event support: Assist with setup, staffing, and breakdown of classes, workshops, and special events, providing on-site coordination and a positive attendee experience.
- Other duties as assigned: Carry out additional tasks in support of JuxtaHub programs and makerspace success as directed by the Makerspace Director.
Required Qualifications
- Creative problem-solving, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Prior experience in a makerspace (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, or fabrication tools).
- Strong customer-service orientation with friendly, professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Well-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage administrative tasks such as processing paperwork and maintaining records.
- Comfortable working with diverse age groups and skill levels.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with online tools and platforms for uploading and managing content.
- Capacity to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings and weekends for events and programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background or coursework in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).
- Familiarity with design software, coding, physical computing, or IT.
- Background or coursework in spatial computing (virtual, augmented, or mixed reality – e.g., Meta Quest, HTC, Snap Spectacles, Magic Leap) is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift equipment (up to 50 lbs) and perform tasks such as bending, standing, and moving materials for events or workshops.
Clearances
The successful candidate will be required to comply with PA Acts 153 and 15 by providing/obtaining a PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check Clearance, and FBI Federal Criminal History Record Clearance.
This role is both administrative and hands-on, ideal for a friendly, reliable self-starter who enjoys supporting people, programs, and creative technology. The position reports to the Convergent Makerspace Director.
