Tijasia A. Lett

Studio 229

From a young age, Tijasia A. Lett found drawing to be an escape from reality into a world where she could do and make whatever she wanted. Over time she became familiar with other mediums, including acrylic, pastels, watercolor, and oil paints, as well as digital drawing and editing. However, as she matured, she realized that instead of hopping into an escape world, she needed to pay attention to reality, and thus her painting process began to focus on the themes of intentionality and emotion. Tijasia’s creative process recognizes that feelings change and are temporary, yet are familiar and deserve appreciation by requiring the artist to be fully present during those moments.

Her mixed media artwork displays an abstract realism that allows viewers to clearly see the focus of the piece, though color or composition may offer surprises. She often relies on other art forms to guide her creative process. For example, as music lover finds she has found that listening to somber music will slow the pace of her painting and she ends up being more detailed even if she doesn’t intend to be, whereas more upbeat music has been known to create a distraction that allows her to skip over planned elements that the piece didn’t end up needing. Overall Tijasia’s goal is to not only to create work that has meaning to her, but to entertain people and make them feel something through her artwork.
